Copy-of-dreamstime_m_20515227A recent study showed that traumatic experiences early in life can have detrimental effects on a child’s behavior and academic performance. These experiences can be anything from violence in the home, to physical, sexual, or psychological abuse and neglect, etc.

Children exposed to these adverse events often struggle socially and show aggressive tendencies. Likewise, they typically produce below average scores in language, literacy, and math.

It often happens that a child is affected by more than one adverse experience. According to the study, the more traumatic events a child experiences early in life, the worse the behavioral and academic issues will become.

These experiences eventually pose a threat to a child’s future health and well-being into adulthood.
